A glass of wine and the feeling of being right in the middle of the weekend
We hadn't really planned anything special for Saturday. The weather was really nice and we were just thinking about the best way to kick off the weekend. So we walked through Stuttgart – no plan, just seeing where we'd end up.
And that's exactly how we ended up at VINS.
The place is super central, basically positioned so you almost automatically walk past it. Outside, a few people were already standing around with a glass of wine in hand, the tables were buzzing, and somehow everyone was in a good mood. It was pretty clear right away: we're staying here.
What I thought was really cool right away: you don't just get poured any random wine. First they ask what you like to drink and what you're in the mood for. The advice doesn't take half an hour and doesn't feel stiff at all. More like someone recommending a wine they'd actually enjoy drinking themselves. That's exactly what I liked.
On top of that, there are always different wines to try. So it's not like you go once and then you know the whole selection – there's something new every time. I think that's exactly what makes the place special.
At some point we were just standing outside with our glass of wine doing what probably everyone there was doing: people watching.
Around Schillerplatz there was so much life. People came from the weekly market, others were out with friends or just wandering around town because the weather was way too nice to sit inside. And that was honestly the best part of the morning. You're standing right in the middle of Stuttgart and yet you don't feel like you have to rush off anywhere.
The atmosphere inside the shop matched that too. You can tell that a lot of people aren't just there to quickly grab a bottle of wine. People come, get advice, look for something special, or have another glass on the spot. Everything feels totally relaxed and not fussy at all.
For me, that's why it wasn't just a wine shop. It was more like one of those places where you spontaneously end up staying and afterwards think: that's exactly how Saturday should have started.
Would I go again? In a heartbeat.
Not just because of the wine. Because of the vibe. Because of the people. And because that Saturday morning just felt exactly right.
Little tip: If you're out and about in Stuttgart on a sunny weekend, just stop by and grab a seat outside. Sometimes all it takes is a glass of wine and a bit of time to kick off the weekend.
